iOS Timer Guide

Learn how to use the iOS Timer template to perfectly recreate the iOS Timer UI in After Effects.

Set Timer

With the TIMER layer selected, navigate to the “Timer Settings” effect.

In the Timer section, you can make the following adjustments:

Hours*

Sets the length of the timer in hours.

Minutes*

Sets the length of the timer in minutes.

Seconds*

Sets the length of the timer in seconds.

*We recommend setting Hours, Minutes, and Seconds to whole integers to avoid confusion.

Timer Speed

Set the speed of the timer in relation to real time.

For example:

  • 100% - real time
  • 200% - fast
  • 50% - slow

Set Clock

In the Clock section, you can make the following adjustments:

Start Time - Hour

Sets the start hour of the clock in the upper left.

To set to 12 AM, set this value to 0.

To set to 12 PM, set this value to 12.

To set to any other PM time, add 12 to the value. For example 14 = 2 PM.

Start Time - Minute

Sets the start minute of the clock in the upper left.

24 Hour Clock

When toggled on, the clock and ETA will range from 0:00 - 23:59. When toggled off, the clock and ETA will range from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM.

Note: AM/PM is only displayed in the ETA section and when 24 Hour Clock is toggled off.

Tips & Tricks

With the timer and clock set, the timer, clock, and ETA will all animate automatically without any keyframes.

You can extend the comp as long as you want. When doing so, be sure to toggle off the hide layers and adjust the length of each layer to fit on the timeline.

To start an animation mid timer you can place the Timer App UI comp inside another comp and position along the timeline accordingly.

Since the entire template is made of shape layers and text layers you can place the Timer App UI comp into any other comp and scale it up as large as you want without losing clarity.
