How to attach After Effects layers with Parental Controls

Parenting in After Effects is pretty straightforward. The child follows the parent’s positions, scale, rotation, etc.

But what happens when the actual text, path, or size of the parent changes? Nothing.

That’s why I made Parental Controls – a free script that lets you attach children to their parent’s actual bounding box.

Select any child layer then use the Parental Controls panel to set both the horizontal and vertical direction you want the child to track with the parent. As you make changes to the parent, the child will now follow suit!
